Osseointegration has seen remarkable growth in rec

Osseointegration has seen remarkable growth in recent years 🦿🚀
Since becoming significantly more accessible and recognised across South Africa, it has equipped prosthetists and patients with alternatives.
With Osseointegration:
-Prosthesis use has increased from 56 to 101 hours per week -Walking speed has improved by 32%
-Quality of life ratings have soared from 39 to 62 on a 100 point scale.
This innovative technique, which allows a prosthetic limb to connect directly to the bone using a titanium implant, goes beyond traditional socket-based systems. It addresses the needs of users, specifically transfemoral and transtibial amputees, who have previously had difficulty with traditional prosthetic socket fitting and suspension methods.
This advancement has us on our toes as we rethink and adapt the prosthetic design to meet the possibilities osseointegration offers. It represents a milestone, bringing us closer to helping our patients achieve smoother, more comfortable mobility.

Over the past three months, we’ve been on a journe

Over the past three months, we’ve been on a journey with a lovely patient who has had difficulty walking due to a condition called Post-polio. She faced challenges like muscle weakness, atrophy, and an unstable knee.
The first video was taken in September, where is walking without any support. We introduced a thermoplastic KAFO (Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthosis) as a test brace to ensure the best fit and functionality. After refining the design, we crafted a custom carbon fibre laminated KAFO, providing her with side-to-side knee stability and support against hyperextension, while allowing natural movement.
The final video was taken in November. You can see how significantly her mobility and stability has improved in just three months. It’s been inspiring to watch her progress and adapt with each step of the journey.
Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. 💪✨
